Power-Roof is a fully integrated, factory-constructed roof cassette that provides a complete standing seam weatherproof layer onto which photovoltaic (PV) panels are seamlessly attached, covering up to 85% of the roof’s surface area. Remarkably, this can span over 8 metres from gable to ridge without requiring additional support. Moreover, beneath its weatherproof layer and PV panels, there is an eco-conscious design that allows it to harvest heat efficiently. This harvested heat can be redirected to serve various purposes, such as feeding a heat pump, hot water cylinder, or a Mechanical Ventilation and Heat Recovery (MVHR) system, ensuring both energy efficiency and cost savings. With a design life expectancy of 60 years, Power-Roof is engineered for longevity, sustainability and net zero.

The Concept

ACTL has developed an innovative, sustainable and stylish new roofing product Power-Roof® that is ideal for new build and also for retrofit for houses that need their roofs replaced. Power-Roof® is a fully integrated, factory constructed roof cassette which provides a compete standing seam weatherproof layer onto which PV is attached covering upto 85% of its surface area, the cassette is a structural element and can span from gable to ridge without additional support upto 8 metres, it contains 300mm of mineral fibre insulation giving a U value of 0.1. Beneath the weatherproof layer and PV, the roof can harvest heat, to cool the PV in hot weather and harvest ambient heat at any time to feed a hot water cylinder, heat pump, or a Mechanical Ventilation and Heat Recovery (MHVR) system.

Newbuild & Retrofit

One of Power-Roof’s standout features is its suitability for retrofitting onto existing houses, particularly those in the social housing sector. Often characterized by poor insulation and high energy costs for tenants, these houses are prime candidates for transformation. The process of retrofitting Power-Roof onto these structures involves the removal of tiles, battens, and old roofing felt, followed by the installation of a new waterproof breathable membrane and the Power-Roof cassette itself. This process is efficient and can be completed quickly.

Net Zero for Social Housing Providors

In the quest for a sustainable and environmentally friendly future, Advanced Construction Technologies Limited (ACTL) has emerged, presenting an innovative solution that promises to revolutionize the social housing sector. ACTL’s ground-breaking product, Power-Roof®, represents a sustainable and stylish roofing solution that caters to the pressing need for retrofitting houses in dire need of roof replacement.

About ACTL…

Advanced Construction Technologies Limited was formed in 2018 in order to take forward our innovative integrated roof as a feasibility project and then as a industrial development project. Both projects were successfully completed and we have developed a fully integrated roof cassette with is designed to act as the complete new roof for new built houses or for a complete replacement roof for houses that are retrofitted.

We have reached a beta product prototype stage with our roof cassette and are ready to reach out to the building industry and to the social housing and landlord sectors for retrofit.

Our brand value is one of sustainability in building and in delivering net zero for the houses that use our roofs through high quality insulation and fully integrated photovoltaics panels that deliver a solution that pays for itself over the first few years following its installation.

Our product and future product range is the result of the realisation by me that existing roof structures were very inefficient and the methods of insulation, using photo voltaics for generating renewable energy and that if we could integrate PV, solar heat harvesting, a weather proof roof  and complete highly insulated structure we could get rid of much of the additional pieces needed when these elements are installed individually. Our Vision was the integrated roof structure and because it saves the occupier energy and generates electricity it would pay for itself.

Retrofit in just one day

On site work is incredibly fast- the house above was fitted with 14 panels, and was watertight in less than a day- the lorries arrived on site at 7am and the roof was weathertight in 6 hours.

On-site preparation is quick – removing tiles, tile battens and as necessary the roofing felt and replacing with weatherproof breathable membrane stuck to the rafters with double sided tape.

Post installation, just needs connections, gutters and end gable flashing.

Last but not least…

You have to admit that the appearance of this innovative construction technique is extremely attractive.
